Conkling's aldermanic journal for 1887-1888 records his daily duties as an alderman such as meetings, marriages, and "tussles" with other aldermen. Newspaper clippings, letters received, business cards, etc. are pasted into the journal scrapbook style or loose. Includes an article based on the journal, published in the Apr. 1948 issue of New York History and written by Harold Jonas, at one time owner of Conkling's journal.
